The regenerative braking system (RBS) allows some of the energy generated during deceleration to be fed back into the battery. For an electric scooter, this means more efficient use of stored energy and an additional means of controlling the scooter while riding.

For urban mobility, this technology is particularly relevant on routes with frequent stops, descents and changes in speed, where braking is a regular part of the journey.

How energy recovery works

During deceleration, the electric motor acts as a generator: some of the scooter’s kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy and fed back into the battery.

RBS can supplement the mechanical braking system, reducing the load on friction components. On some NAVEE models, the level of regenerative braking can be adjusted according to riding conditions and user preferences.

The battery management system monitors battery parameters and helps maintain safe operating conditions during regenerative braking.

Practical benefits for the user

Regenerative braking can offer several practical benefits:

  • more efficient use of energy — some of the energy generated during braking is fed back into the battery;
  • increased range — the amount of recovered energy depends on the route, riding style and other conditions;
  • less wear on mechanical brakes — regenerative braking can supplement friction-based braking systems;
  • controlled deceleration — adjusting the level of regenerative braking allows the scooter’s behaviour to be adapted to the riding scenario.

The actual impact on range depends on operating conditions, braking frequency, terrain and the settings of the specific model.

The significance of the technology for partner businesses

RBS enhances the functionality of electric scooters and allows models to be positioned not only by power or top speed, but also by energy efficiency.

For retailers and online shops, this provides an additional criterion for segmenting their product range and explaining the differences between models. For specialist retailers and system integrators, it is a technical feature that can be taken into account when selecting a scooter based on the route and intended use.
